This topic is one that’s been nagging at me for a while… I almost made a Tumblr post about it, even a Facebook one… Kinda glad I didn’t because I feel it’s much more relevant as a blog post.

Okay… I may be exaggerating a bit. And at the same time, not so much. I used to devour books. I’d always have something close to read. Like a lot of people, I was the person to read the cereal box and the milk carton as I ate breakfast. As I read cleaning product bottles when I had to spend time in the bathroom (I blame the cereals).

I changed a lot in the last years. Reading became hard, and tiring. Same with TV… Although my television watching skills are doing better now, reading is still quite hard. And it’s all a matter of energy… I don’t got no energy!

Well, to be totally honest, I do read… short stuff… If I can read it all in a single sitting, I’m okay. Having to come back to a story is just frustrating because I usually have forgotten anything I’ve read. So I have to go back numerous pages and read again to make sure I can follow what’s going on.

I haven’t bought a new book in a while because the last three I bought, I still have to read them.

If you know any of these titles, you may be able to appreciate how long it’s been since I’ve read a book. I think the older one there is John Irving’s The Fourth Hand… Probably bought it not too long after it was published too and I have yet to read it.

Then there’s Austin Clarke’s The Polished Hoe. In trying to find information about it, I learned that Mr. Clarke died last June. I kinda feel bad now that I still haven’t read his book.

The last one, We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas, is the most recent one. Those who know me (or heard of this book) might just know from which fandom I sprung. I was already in that “can’t-read” phase when I bought it, all because it came highly recommended by an actor I like.

Yeah… I’m just that easy!

So here I am, with three barely touched novels that I really want to read but can’t find the heart and energy to do it. I’m starting to think that I should give audiobooks a try, but… as I do when I listen to music or even TV, I’m certain my mind will just drift off and I’ll miss most of the story.

How I can even write when I can’t bring myself to read much truly is a mystery. Well, I do read my own writing… A LOT!  I have no choice, otherwise I can’t even remember whatever it is I wrote last!

And you? Have you read any of these books? What’s the last thing you’ve read? (I wish I could tell you what book I read last, but I have no idea… might have been one of the many Chuck Palahniuk’s novels I have, just can’t say which one.

I hope you have a marvelous Monday, and I’ll see you tomorrow.
